United Way Classic Round 2 Recap: A Day of Suspense and Surprises

(Fort Smith, AR) - The second round of the United Way Classic proved to be a rollercoaster of events, culminating in a suspension due to darkness. As the sun set, players were forced to pause their pursuit of victory, with the promise of resuming the competition at 7:30 am the following day, where they'll pick up right where they left off.

Initially, the day dawned with perfect weather conditions, offering ideal playing conditions for the competitors. However, Mother Nature had other plans in store. Around 3 pm, a sudden storm swept through the course, disrupting play and adding a twist to the day's proceedings. Despite the setback, play resumed at 5:45 pm, with determined players eager to make the most of the remaining daylight.

One standout performer of the day was James Piot from Canton, MI, who seized the opportunity to catapult himself up the leaderboard. With an impressive display of skill and determination, Piot managed to climb a staggering 100 spots and shot an outstanding 8 under par. His remarkable performance not only caught the attention of spectators but also secured him a spot at T17, comfortably inside the cut line.

However, amidst the shuffle, Wil Gibson maintained his stronghold at the top of the leaderboard. With a four-shot lead heading into the third round, Gibson demonstrated consistent excellence throughout the tournament, showcasing his prowess on the greens and solidifying his position as the player to beat.

As the sun sets on an eventful second round, anticipation builds for the continuation of the United Way Classic. With players poised to resume their quest for victory and unexpected twists lurking around every corner, the stage is set for an electrifying conclusion to this thrilling tournament.

The third round will begin tomorrow with players being sorted by score, with the leaders teeing off last. The field will be competing for their share of the $130,000 purse and the winner will take home $20,000.
